You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies Lit up the world as I fell asleep Cause they'd fill the open air And leave tear drops everywhere You'd think me rude but I would just stand and Stare I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems Cause I'd get a thousand hugs From ten thousand lightning bugs As they tried to teach my how to dance A foxtrot above my head A sock-hop beneath my bed The disco ball is just hanging by a thread (Thread, thread...) I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems (When I fall asleep) Leave my door open just a crack (Please take me away from here) Cause I feel like such an insomniac (Please take me away from here) Why do I tire of counting sheep? (Please take me away from here) When I'm far too tired to fall asleep (Ha-ha) To ten million fireflies I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes I got misty eyes as they said farewell (Said farewell) But I'll know where several are If my dreams get real bizarre Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar (Jar, jar, jar...) I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Cause everything is never as it seems (When I fall asleep) [x2] I'd like to make myself believe That planet Earth turns, slowly It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep Because my dreams are bursting at the seams ...I have sold my iPod to Elaine's maid. HAHAH I didn't know that maids could be so cheapskate (no offense Elaine) But the casing's still for sale. It's in good condition, really, I swear. It's up for 35 bucks! Our school principal should really be changed or something. Today she kept insisting that it was Thursday and none of the teachers or VPs bothered to tell her to stop her from making a fool out of herself. And she was scolding us for bringing down the wrong books too. And when the whole school told her it was Wednesday she just blew it off like it was nothing. And Jing Ying said that our former science teacher looked like he was trying not to smile. Note that I'm not naming anyone. I stayed back on Tuesday to mug with Ali and J, and we did some wonderful mind-maps on the board. I also proved that J and I did not have a rivalry(aside from fighting for space on the board, and really, Ali was doing it too). I was particularly fascinated by the way Ali managed to squeeze High BR and Low BR all in one small space especially when I was doing it. Fighting for all that space for nothing. Evil. I'll post the pictures on Friday after our last mugging session, so that all the pictures can be uploaded at the same time. Yours Truly is lazy like that. I got an A for science test. I am bloody shocked especially since I barely studied for it at all. All I did was stare at my notes. Maybe that really helps after all. Granted, it was a low A, but an A is an A. Sadly I was signed on for Math Consultation again. I don't see the difference between consultations and remedial, when PA has got something to do with it. Gah. I've decided to enter myself in the DA lit competition, with my passage about the dance thing. I mean, I have nothing to lose right? Other than my dignity. But still. Anyway I'll put the passage here so that people who have never heard of DA can tell me how to improve it too. Or should I submit Death's Apprentice? Because lots of people favourite-d Death's Apprentice and not The Dance. Even though The Dance is way better than Death's Apprentice, but hell, I've ranted about this before and I shan't do it again. But one is entitled to feel sore. Ah well. Not like I really really want to win the prize anyway, so I'll just submit the one that I prefer. Gen said she could imagine the girl dancing, so that has got to count for something right? Unless she was lying. I now know how Gen and Zhi Han felt when they kept using up the tissues. And Gen was right, NTUC tissues are horrible. Anyway-- The Dance: I heard my destination before I saw it. A place of pulsing beats and wild movements, I enjoyed going there to pass the night... And later, to feed. Hot,warm blood laced with alcohol teased my nose as a female moved past me, her hair chasing after her. As I moved from the middle of the floor, I detected a slight change in the aura surrounding me. The contentment was still there, but there was a wild joy that I had never noticed before. As I continued on to the fringes of the lit-up floor, I smelt the slight smell of hatred, all directed at one spot in the room. Pushing past the sweaty bodies, I spotted a small hole in the crowd. At the edges of that vortex, people stood around with upturned noses, sneering at her openly. In the middle of them all, an African-American girl, tall and slim and proud, danced. It wasn't the clumsy movements that humans in this age liked to call 'dance'. It was the wild dance of nature, of storm and wind and earth, smoldering with the energy of a flame. It was the graceful, lithe dance that even generations past had not been able to achieve. The wild thrill of just moving beat through her, her every movement enunciating that fact. As she finished her dance, her head held high, she swept out of the room with her dignity intact, in spite of all the efforts to shred and scatter it. I stared after her, into the moonlit night. Whoever she was, she reminded me of the Ancient One, before she had separated herself into the four elements. And the thought warmed me right to the core of my non-existent soul. Just so you know, the narrator is not a vampire, no matter what you might think. I think I was aiming for someone who is older than time, who can remember the Weaving of the World. Yeah, and apparently s/he can remember everything and is really wise. I don't know what s/he feeds on though. |
